The peaceful simplicity of a Saturday at home

In the background, the 77's play while downstairs, voices of creative, happy children drift up to my sleepyheaded self, sitting on the couch, with a cat curled up close beside me.
I've been nursing a headache since yesteday and so I welcome this lazy, snowy, cold Saturday from inside the comfort of my well-loved home. There's really nothing that must be done right now....dishes are in the dishwasher, clothes have made their rounds through our now, thankfully immobile washing machine and dryer. Bills need to be paid, but I'll put that off one more day when I can clearly think.
I was happily surprised today as Abigail, after asking if it was lunch time, proceeded to take out all the necessary ingredients and utensils to make PB & J sandwiches for Elliott and herself. After making the sandwiches, including cutting the bread in half to make appropriate-sized portions, she and Elliott perched themselves at the counter and ate up their sandwiches and bananas. To top it off, Abigail exclaimed, with a proud grin on her face, that Elliott told her it was the best PB & J sandwich he has ever had.
Later, Abigail said she wanted to make lunch herself, to give me a break; what a sweetheart! It's not like I was acting like I was busy or anything (maybe she noticed I seemed tired due to the headache.....I don't know; she's just THAT thoughtful. I just smiled, gave her a big hug, and said thank you.
Tonight we'll have breakfast for dinner - a family favorite, and after the kids go to bed, I'll snuggle up with paul and fall asleep or something like that =-).
