The Inevitable

In the aftermath of discovering the seat belt of our new van being almost completely chewed through by Sirius (our loveable, yet fang-mouthed family dog) and Abigail's school backpack being chewed as well on the same ride home, then the toilet in the kid's bathroom being clogged beyond our ability to set the offending object free, and the wheelbarrow wheel getting punctured in the middle of Paul hauling rocks after we had just received a replacement wheel......and the list could go on if I thought hard enough...........
I have been reminded of a passage that reads:
"Don't hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or - worse! - stolen by burglars (they should have written, chewed by beloved dog). Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it's safe from moth and rust and burglars. It's obious, isn't it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being."
I don't believe I am hoarding, yet I am feeling all the natural occurances by living in a world of things that will not last and have no lasting value after i am dead. I do wish; however, that these objects would stay fixed and last until I am dead. Who wants to spend $200 to replace a seatbelt?
Such is life.....I believe the words in the passage are true and so I remind myself to take things in stride, take care of things the best I can while not giving them more importance in my life than the people and pets around me. It can be so easy to lose sight of the big picture while dealing with the everyday grind of life. I can't do it alone, yet often i try.
