Not in, but of

This past weekend could not have been more hectic and mundane - yes, both equally. Friday around noon I felt for the bustling metropolis of Fort Wayne to begin shooting (rehearsal) for a wedding. I was exhausted from the previous day's "roadtrip" to NYC (which by the way was a phenomenal time). The following morning I got my gear prepared (went through my checklist of material, lens, filters, flashcards, batteries, flash gear, etc).
All in all weddings are a difficult thing. I certainly don't want to be a wedding photographer. I don't believe my personality is such to manage a large gathering of so many diverse families, all wound tight with excitement and nervousness. I don't feel my creativity is used (or I'm not really able to find much creativity) in documenting such an important event. Though I'm not "in" the wedding, I end up doing as much, if not more, than most, constantly keeping as vigilant as possible (I usually don't eat a thing, for fear of missing a moment).
A wedding is the most significant time in many people's lives (next only to the birth of your children -- but you wouldn't hire a photographer to get pictures of that moment; at least I hope so), and I take the responsibility of that very seriously, snapping portrait after portrait, candid after candid (hoping that I don't mess it up). It's stressful; so I'll limit my wedding portfolio to friends.
The trip was -- an adventure; less so for me, and more so for Sonya and the kids. Sonya and the kids drove up Saturday morning. Sonya forgot her clothes, and ended up wearing a silky pajama top and jeans (then going to Meijer to buy a dress for the reception), then later started to get a migraine. Since we drove separately, and Sonya would be unable to drive with a migraine, I had Ryan drive my Civic back to Cincinnati (thank you Ryan) and I drove the van back that evening (rather than spending the night like we had planned). The highlight may have been a moment I missed completely, but heard about (aside from the Four Corners bring your own alcohol caravan on Ben's RV):
"Are they going to KISS?" (immediately preceding the kiss); "YUCK." Loudly whispered by Elliott during the ceremony

I need Elliot commentary in my daily life. If I could, I'd substitute it for the voices in my head.

That's hilarious! Zach is the same way- it must be the age. It is a good 'parenting' threat when nothing else seems to be working "if you don't ____ then we're going to kiss". so, maybe he'll be a bit warped. if it keeps him from trying it longer, then maybe is isn't such a bad idea after all.
