Apparently his dog doesn't deserve to live?

Ohio got it into its dumb skull that a certain type of dog needs to be eradicated -- regardless of its true disposition or even public record. House Bill 568 is a ridiculous bill that seems to at best not understand dog behavior and breed versus human responsibility (for training, rearing and care of an animals overall temperament).
Essentially the bill gives carte blanche to anyone who sees a dog acting aggressively toward someone (What about all those small annoying rat dog breeds that bite, growl and are VERY aggressive toward people -- they're just small, but far more vicious in terms of disposition -- should we kill them too?). Sirius (pictured above) looks to many people like a pit bull -- though more precisely, to us he looks like a blend of a Labrador and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. As you can see in the picture he's harmless. Is he protective -- hell yes. Is he territorial -- yup. Does he growl and bark at strangers -- yes, just like a Golden Retriever, Labrador, or any dog in general -- dogs are territorial by their species; not breed.
The fact that he looks scary (according to the bills logic) by default means that he is scary and must therefore will kill you at any second. That's the logic, and its sad. If this goes through, we might have to move from Ohio (because I'm not willing to lose our dog because of a spooked neighbor who probably doesn't like dogs anyway is afraid of our dog and calls the police who then have the right to come into our home without cause and take Sirius and euthanize him). Shame on you Ohio.

The Ohio Bill is asinine...a furthering of the mentality of "victimization" over responsibility. Thanks Ohio for continuing to know what's best for us...apparently we Ohioans are big dumb brutes who know nothing and the government is saving us from ourselves. No more public smoking, no more "mean" dogs...and coming soon, no more eating fatty foods.

Ryan, I have been to Ohio and the government does need to tell you guys how to behave especially when I drive into your state with Michigan plates during football season even though I could care less who wins a football game! Kind of kidding there.
I like that Sirius and Paul have the same exact hair – that charcoal and gray is sweet!
Do you want to stop idiots from breeding vicious dogs? Then when some dog does something to somebody the owner is put in jail for at least 90 days and they are banned from owning dogs for the rest of their lives.
Thank you Michael Vick!
I like people being accountable. In Germany they have very relaxed liquor laws UNTIL you do something stupid. You are caught drunk driving, your license is taken away indefinitely.

I live in Ohio and I don't care about college football one ounce. Never watch games. But I do know that Michigan sucks (kidding).
Yeah, the law seems enormously broad and entirely inappropriately pro-active. The law already exists for dogs who have a record of attacks to be taken (usually still, with nothing done to the owners, who are the ones to blame in the first place). I know some states (I think Florida?) require owners of pitbulls to buy liability insurance of $100,000 for the dog. Anyway ... America doesn't even know the laws that they already have and seem to find it necessary to make new ones that leap over the existing with insane paranoia.

Good lord. It's more the owners than the dog in 99.99% of the cases of aggressive dogs anyway... More reason to NOT move back to Ohio. I hope that doesn't pass. That's a bad, bad precedent to set. Not that you should worry. Sirius is the most mellow dog I've met (who isn't like 15 years old or something). ;-)

stupid stupid stupid stupid. I really like the idea of the owner taking the punishment because isn't it the owners who are training their dogs to fight in underground circles or protect their drugs or whatever that are the ones sparking the state's bright idea to just eradicate a whole type of dog from existence? I'm going to write to Cesar Milan, the dog whisperer.
And where the hell is PETA during a time like this?!

Written below is information taken from Wikkepedia on Pit Bulls. Now see what the Netherlands has learned. Lets learn likewise without the cruel and unusual eradicating of pit bulls and any other dog that "seems" like one: Why doesn't Youngstown Ohio find and punish the people who are raising fighting dogs and having their dogs participate in the fights?!
The Netherlands Cancelled Country 1993 On june 9, 2008 Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality Gerda Verburg announced the ban on Pitbulls will be canceled before the end of the year. The reason for this was that there was no reduction of bitingincidents with dogs since Pit Bulls were banned. The ban was installed in 1993 after three bitingincidents where three children were killed. New rules will no longer select on breed or Molosserlooks but require a behaviortest for any large dog that shows signs of agression [17]

It will never pass. Any idiot knows that just about any breed/variety can be vicious if mistreated or trained to be aggressive. The congressman who is proposing this legislation probably had a relative who was injured by a pit bull.
